GILBERLICE MENEZES

The difficult life of a single mother of twins in Porto Seguro, Bahia, with everything to be resolved and decided, also brought the desire for moments of pure inspiration, and that was how Gilberlice began to build miniature houses with the materials she found, as a safe haven.

She discovered her dyslexia at school and was not always welcomed; on the contrary, she faced barriers, prejudice and neglect. Today she is growing stronger as a woman and an artist.

A Black woman born in the countryside of Bahia, in Arataca, the artist resides in Porto Seguro. She photographs miniature houses on the beach that function both visually and emotionally as cozy spaces. The reuse of materials provides a metaphorical view of reorganizing life's difficulties. It also points to the possibility of building a harmonious whole where each person finds comfort, affection, and warmth. In this sense, the space created by the artist is a place where individuals can present and represent their existential paths.
