KIM PERCY

Kim Percy is a multidisciplinary artist from Australia with over 30 years of experience in the visual arts, also working as a university professor and researcher. Her recent work focuses on the conceptual framework of dyslexia—diagnosed late—exploring how this condition influences visual perceptions, spatial patterns, narrative consciousness, and the social masking of neurodiverse individuals. In exhibitions such as Visualizing the Invisible (2025) and Diverse Elements (2023), she blends painting, photography, digital media, video, and augmented reality, seeking to make visible the invisible effects of neurodiversity while also problematizing personal identity, social invisibility, and the impact of living with hidden aspects of oneself. Percy also participates in prestigious art festivals, has been a finalist for important awards such as the Bowness Photographic Prize, and works on projects that integrate art, curation, and the environment, highlighting her commitment to social issues beyond aesthetics.

HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT

The piece titled “Hiding In Plain Sight” is part of the series “The Mask vs The Real Thing,” exhibited at the Ballarat Foto Biennale, Australia. Like the video, it addresses visual issues connected to the feeling of being out of sync with the world around. There is an identity and coherence in the works, aimed at developing a thought process that highlights how being dyslexic goes beyond difficulties with reading and writing within traditional parameters. The question is placed in the context of perceiving the world through a different visual consciousness, where the world is not divided into “us” and “them,” allowing the prevalence of integration values.

NEW INVENTION | SILENT DISCO

The work discusses how a person can appear calm and controlled on the outside, yet be out of control on the inside. The concept, therefore, addresses all types of masks in society, in their most diverse aspects. The use of Augmented Reality is part of the research for the series "The Real Thing," which seeks to use new technologies to visually convey emotional responses within a society where masks are continually used in social, economic, emotional, and behavioral matters, also involving issues related to power struggles and all kinds of prejudice.

Dyslexia is more than just reading and writing, it's also about how I perceive the world.
