MARAMGONI
The painter from São Paulo, who today bases his work on acrylic paint on canvas, using old photographs and history books as inspiration.
Although he only discovered he had dyslexia at age 36, already a renowned artist, the knowledge liberated him, bringing understanding of the difficulties he faced and the importance of art, which allowed him to move forward without fear.
He worked extensively as a self-taught artist, developing an aesthetic strongly marked by lines, perspective, and architecture—influences that took shape when he studied architecture (albeit informally) and became familiar with classical styles such as Greco-Roman.
His work prioritizes urban settings, memories of place, architecture, landscapes, and everyday scenes, with a nostalgic yet vigorous approach that engages with both past and present.

The artist has been painting since the age of nine and, being dyslexic, found in art a passport to the world. His visceral relationship with paints and canvas leads to stimulating artistic results. His technique, as shown in "Composição Paulistana," is based on knowledge of the canons of academicism, such as concepts of light and shadow and the dialogue between colors, combined with self-taught research since his first contact with painting. His urban visions are characterized by a practice that takes into account architectural principles, such as perspective and continuity of lines, which find in the effects of light a unique and differentiated language. His cities are particular because they are recognizable by certain references, but universal because of the atmosphere achieved thanks to the style of the brushstroke. The essential thing ceases to be what is painted and becomes to carefully observe how it is painted.

HAPPY HOUR
By depicting a group of friends at a happy hour in the 1940s, the work offers elements for reflection. One of them is the way the light is used, creating a mysterious atmosphere, as if the scene had something forbidden about it. A hint of this suggestion can be found in the fact that the place only has men as customers, but the waitress is a woman.
The urban scene, although indoors, reinforces this type of connotation due to the painting on the wall, a nude woman that dialogues, through its composition and form, with more academic paintings that allude to the female body as a space of desire, often more idealized than realized.

Ireland - Dublin 1940s
The way light is handled in the pictorial space is the main differentiating element of the artist. Whatever the scene depicted, a peculiar atmosphere is created. Who are these people? Where are they going? Where are they looking? The scene establishes a climate of mystery based on the characters' gazes and the tonalities. Thus, through refined technical skill, the observer is led to reflect on the possibilities of art to create fascinating worlds.

Art arises from two complementary movements. On one hand, there is the artist's relationship with the world, that is, the way he relates to society and how he interprets it in his creations. On the other hand, there is the way he interacts with himself, seeking to explore his creative potential. In both aspects, Maramgoní's work finds its own solutions. When he presents, in his carefully crafted technique, with an emphasis on light and shadow, a barrel organ player, he evokes a past in which relationships between people were more direct, less mediated by the media and social networks.
