MARAMGONI

The painter from São Paulo, nowadays living in Portugal, settles his work on acrylic paint on canvas, based on old photographs and history books.

Although he only discovered dyslexia at the age of 36, already a renowned artist, the knowledge set him free, bringing understanding about the difficulties he experienced and the importance of art, which allowed him to walk without fear.

COMPOSITION FROM SÃO PAULO

The artist painted since he was nine years old and, being dyslexic, found in art a passport to the world. The visceral relationship with the paint and the canvas results in instigating works of art. His technique, as shows in the “Paulist Composition”, it is based on the knowledge of the canons of academicism, as concepts of light and shadow and the dialogue between colors, added to the self-taught research since the first contact with painting. His urban visions are characterized by a architectural type of principles, like perspective and continuity of the lines, that in the effects of light find a unique and diverse language. His cities are private, only to be recognized by some references, but they’re also universal by the atmosphere given by the brush stroke style. The essential is not what it’s painted, but how it is painted.

HAPPY HOUR

The work entitled "Dança das Luzes" presents two essential elements. The first being the idea of movement, because the images precisely present concreteness in space, which suggests a permanent dynamic. Besides that, the element of light is fundamental not only because it is about Photographyy, but mainly, because it's about facing a reunion of images that stimulate a reflection about the greatness and calmness of the universe.

That way, the attentive observation of each plastic construction presented, constitutes a way of dialoguing with the potentialities of the cosmos.

The way of dealing with light in pictorial space is the main differentiating element of the artist. Whatever scene is portrayed, there is the creation of a peculiar atmosphere. Who are these people? Where do they go? Where do they look? The scene establishes a climate of mystery based on the looks of the characters and tonalities. Thus, through an improved technical doing, the observer is led to a reflection on the possibilities of art to create fascinating worlds.

REALEJO

Art emerges from two complementary movements. On one side, the artist's relationship with society and how he interprets it in his work. On the other, his interaction with himself, exploring his creative potential. Maramgoní’s carefully crafted technique, with an emphasis on light and shadow, evokes a past where relationships between people were more direct, unmediated by mass communication and social media.
