RENATO GODÁ
Renato Godá, from São Paulo, is a musician and composer of devilishly romantic lyrics. He has performed in the United States, in 2012, as a guest of the South by Southwest festival and toured the states of Texas and New York. During his European tour, his shows were included on the list of favorites of Timeout magazine editors. His music blends jazz, folk, country, and chanson sounds with Brazilian sounds. He is considered one of the best composers of his generation by Bravo! magazine and the Folha de São Paulo newspaper.

I'M GOING FAR AWAY
My past is just dust/That rises in the rearview mirror/That the wind carries away/That the wind scatters/It matters little, for on the far road I go.” The opening verses of the song “Longe eu vou” (Far Away I Go), from the album “Nômade” (Nomad), by Renato Godá, aptly represent the artistic production and life journey of a singer-songwriter whose music was described by the renowned British magazine Timeout as an “appetizing melting pot that mixes sounds of jazz, folk, country and chanson with Brazilian sounds.” Faced with an incomplete academic career and insecurities and frustrations in dealing with what was considered “normal” and “correct,” he developed, from childhood, an imaginary world that occupied his brain while traditional classes continued. A light came when a teacher, at age 14, suggested he read the poet Charles Bukowski, which he loved. The diagnosis of dyslexia took a long time to arrive, but it came as “a breath of relief and freedom.” As the song says: “With my worn-out boots I go far/With my uncertain destiny I go far.”

Renato Godá's musicality, whether in rhythm or lyrics, resides in the realm of sensitivity. As the song says, it is in "unbridled passions" that life, to a large extent, finds its fulfillment. The dances of life's journey are with both "angels" and "demons" in the act of creating "impossible dreams," those that art gives some form to, in the dialogues between the heart and the intellect, between feeling and thinking.

BEING WHO I AM
The song delicately yet forcefully discusses the importance of accepting others as they are. This process constitutes one of the most beautiful and, at the same time, most complex facets of the act of loving. Dyslexia is my natural state; I'm almost 50 years old and I can't imagine myself any other way. Throughout this time I've experienced all the classic difficulties, such as an unfinished academic career, the insecurities that came from the frustrations of not being able to conform to what was actually considered (at least where I tried to study) as normal and correct. I also experienced the possibility of developing creatively from a very young age, because while my focus was completely lost and I distanced myself from my classmates (already at six or seven years old), an entire imaginary universe invaded my head, after all it needed to be occupied while the bell signaling the end of classes was slow to arrive. It took me a long time to be diagnosed, but when I was, it was like a breath of relief and freedom.
