The poem focuses on the presence of an absence. This is how the word "saudade" is often defined. What remains of the departed is an important element in everyday life, as it is in everyday life that many voids are left unfilled. The text addresses the issue with delicacy and sensitivity, without falling into sentimentality, but with an elegant discussion of the absence a person can have physically and through the way they handled their belongings.
