About the book: Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Emmy-nominated actor Ameer Baraka portrays in this book his artistic, personal, and intellectual development on the streets of his city in the 1980s. With a history that includes a conviction for manslaughter, a crime in which he had no intention of killing, at age 14, he recounts the violence of the streets combined with learning difficulties related to dyslexia. He received his diagnosis in prison, where he learned to read and write and became aware of his differences and the opportunities to demonstrate the possibilities of education both inside and outside the prison system. The self-discovery of various existential questions has led him to become a role model for people with similar life trajectories.

Sobre a obra: O conceito de desatar e desafiar nós cognitivos e existenciais se faz presente na coreografia realizada para a peça conhecida como “Valsa Póstuma”, escrita por Chopin em 1849, seu último ano de vida, e publicada postumamente. O título “Harmony”, nesse contexto, é justamente um convite a um dançar regido pelo entrosamento de cada bailarino consigo mesmo, com o outro e com o entorno, no caso os Jardins do Castelo Schönhausen, na Alemanha. A interação entre o par; ela, neuro-atípica; e ele, neurotípico; constitui uma representação da integração que forma um “Nós” harmônico que se materializa pela dança.

Dessa maneira, o trabalho se torna uma aula de diversidade nos seus mais variados aspectos, alguns muitas vezes negligenciados. A palavra se movimenta e a narração fortalece o tom de indagação sobre três letras que tanto indicam um grupo ao qual pertencemos como uma dificuldade a ser vencida.

Não se trata de colocar juízos de valor, ou seja, estabelecer se isso é melhor ou pior do que era no passado, mas de ter a percepção de como a comunicação virtual gera uma ebulição de relações que, por exemplo, faz repensar a geografia física e emocional. Permite, por exemplo, uma heterogeneidade mais ampla de contatos.
