TIAGO VINÍCIOS

Tiago from an early age brings a strong relationship with art. From the country side of Bahia, through the presentations of the church, he came into contact with theater and music. After realizing he was dyslexic, he found in visual art, especially in cinema, photography and audiovisual, the way to express himself and communicate with the public in an intense way.

DYSLEXIA PHOTOGRAPHIC PROJECT

A learning disorder characterized, with others symptoms, by the difficulty to read, dyslexia shows many faces and variations. In 2020, to escape his anxiety attacks during the pandemic, Tiago Vinicios Araújo created the Photographic Project "Dislexia". It has b

ecome a way to express pains, anguish and despair towards what he was facing at the moment. This photo establishes, visually, links between the imbalance of the letters and the challenges of reading. They appear misaligned, and an "E" is put in an explicit inverted way of the unusual vision that a dyslexic has of a text, with all the consequences that this can bring in terms of societal prejudice. Tiago himself suffered an anxiety attack in 2018 in consequence of being mocked in his class, which led him to search for a specialist, with treatment from a multidisciplinary team. This way, the barriers and tethers of the adversities can become an image of liberation.

FEMALE PORTRAITS

The series of images in which the Photographer works with a black woman brings out questions that are very important for this visual creator.

One of them is in his capacity to be empathic and able to create a favorable atmosphere so the model, especially when playing that role for the first time, can feel comfortable to shine intensely through the session.

The art of Photographing, in this context, is a journey in which it is necessary to extract the most of those instants, as much as in terms of brightness and shadows as of an interaction with the professional that tries, in a different way, to transform those ephemeral moments in eternal registers from which all the involved can be proud of.

OUR PLURAL IS SINGULAR

An extension of the Dyslexia Photographic Project, "Our Plural is Singular" focuses on the concept of overcoming, showcasing the body as a space for affection. Images of embraces and encounters highlight the importance of self-knowledge and self-worth in achieving mental  health and professional success, regardless of neurodiversity.

TIAGO
by himself

The arts have been part of my life since I was very young. I have been a Christian (Evangelical) since I was a child and I was immersed in all types of arts from a very young age.
I remember my first performance together with other children in a theatrical performance. On the occasion, I recited salms 23, dressed as a sheep at just 4 years old, presenting many speech difficulties, at the time I stuttered so much that people had difficulties in understanding what I was saying. But the senic arts, music in general and in the future the visual arts, specifically cinema and audiovisual would show me that there are no limits to artistic expression.

Today, being aware that I am a person with dyslexia, I use all my artistic skills to express my joy, euphoria, pain, anguish and everything that comes to bother me.
Above all, I use artistic portraits to photograph shy people, who have never been photographed before. I believe that dyslexia enhances my level of empathy, making it possible for me to communicate sensitively and thus direct the photographed person in a unique way.
Dyslexia allows me to have a vision and perception of the world around me completely different from the vision of non-dyslexic people, this factor enhances my artistic vision and helps me when I see light and shadow in unlikely places. The result is always seen with enthusiasm by the people photographed and by the spectators.
